GoLM was founded on the idea that we are in this together and that no makerspace professional should have to be on their own

2026: GoLMCon: Building together

The Guild's second annual conference takes place September 18, 2026, at Southfield Public Library. Under the theme Building Together, GoLMCon marks a shift from laying the groundwork to putting it to work, turning a growing network of makerspace staff into a community that takes on real projects together.

May 2026: Becoming a Nonprofit

The Guild formalized as a federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit, putting the mutual aid network on solid legal ground. What started as informal conversations between makerspace staff now had the structure to apply for grants, hold funds, and grow sustainably.

2025: GoLMCon: Making together

The Guild held its first annual conference on September 12, 2025, at Rochester Hills Public Library in Michigan. Under the theme Making Together, GoLMCon offered a day of sessions and hands on demos, turning a shared sense of isolation into the beginning of a nationwide support network

2024: The Idea

Southeast Michigan library makerspace staff started comparing notes on their makerspaces. It turned out we were all running into the same problems at our respective libraries, and without talking to each other, we were each separately reinventing the wheel. That caused frustration, isolation, and an ever expanding list of duties. We wanted to create an easily accessible space where our questions could be answered in real time and recorded for posterity, so no one would have to reinvent the wheel again.
